For each round, there is a topic, for example, TOYS, with 16 various vocabulary words that correspond to that topic. Then the round begins, one vocabulary word is highlighted — for everyone at least except for the Pretender, who has no idea which word is the one. He/she nevertheless see the table of 16 words.

Each participant has to name one word that corresponds to that word in the table which is highlighted without revealing either too much or being soo vague that it could apply to any or all of the words. Meanwhile the Pretender has to pretend that he/she knows what everyone is talking by simply taking an educated guess on what word could be the one.

When it’s the Pretender’s turn, he/she must also produce a word— based on what the other participants said, he/she can take a good guess.

Being either too vague or too specific gives it away that you're maybe the Pretender since only the Pretender has no idea which word is actually being discussed here and instead has to guess.

Once each participant has named a word, the moderator asks for discussion, discussion goes on for as long as the moderator allows, 1-2 minutes, then each participant has to vote for who they think the pretender is and points are allotted accordingly.. That is, 2 points for ‘escaping’ detection as the Pretender since that’s harder and 1 point for correctly identifying who the Pretender is.

The side-slick helps keep the story going by occasionally asking strategic questions while the sleuths take notes and make 3 guesses as to what they think the secret words are. This is a trivia guessing game. Up to 8 players receive a question for which the answer is a number that no one could possibly know, hence, the name of taking a shot in the dark.

So a crazy question, for example, like, "How many more condoms on average are sold on New Year’s Eve at the Billa on Rotenturmstr. in the 1st district of Vienna than on other days of the year, where, for example, the daily average is 80?"

Each person has to offer up an answer. The person who gets closest wins the round.

For the online game portal purposes, we’ll probably use a dart board and each time a person guesses, we’ll hear the sound of a knife being thrown at the board..

The only task is for participants to determine if the story is actually true or false, as in made-up. For each incorrect guess, a giant wooden gavel moves closer to the players. Once the gavel lands on a player, he/she gets squished. Each player gets one extra life which he/she can use one time to go back into the game.
